summer music

"Funny how a melody sounds like a memory... Like a soundtrack to a July Saturday night." - Eric Church

I am a concert enthusiast. Nothing takes me to my happy place like a live concert.

While looking for something this week I came across the ticket stub for my first intro to my fave... Kenny Chesney. Yep... Barely readable and faded with time... This concert in 2001 took my concert obsession to a new level.

Here's to that first concert and the 8 or so a year I have seen every year after...

life.

I was always certain about my job - maybe too certain. But not with love. There is a flip side no one tells you about. You wake up one day and you realize that while you were busy being brazen making a name for yourself, everyone made a life.

that summer.

Hot nights. Live music. Summer love.

We all know the feeling, no matter if we were 15 or 35. A few summers back I met an incredible friend. In the moment, and subsequent moments after that, he made me feel like the woman I am. I am a true believer that all come into your life for a reason, and this person came into my life to show me how I should and could be treated. He made me feel like I was the only person around...and for him... That meant something. Just last summer, when we caught up again for another summer night, he showed me that in a crowd of 45,000 ... There was only 1.

Though I never let my head hear what my heart was saying, he proved just last night that he is the man I thought he was. Even during a tough conversation, he showed me again how I should be treated. With respect, honesty and sincerity.

So I thank him...for all he showed me. And hope that this friendship will last, and come around again ... on another summer night.

A Coastal Gem

While enjoying a great Sunday last weekend I came across a great find... The most amazing home decor store. I seriously wanted to buy the entire store! ( and the photo of my car after the stop shows evidence that I tried!! ) I will definitely be going back... And check them out for yourself. http://www.airliemoon.com/

The waves of promise

As I was driving yesterday to another event that I am volunteering at, I had 4 long hours of watching the lines pass and listening to the next song on the radio. And plenty of time to think.

I found myself wondering why I attend events and volunteer my time. Especially on a weekend where my family is gathering to have a fun weekend in the snow! But my conscious got the best of me and my "willing to help others spirit" took over, and I kept driving to my destination. I arrived and began working at my "volunteer job".

And possibly the reason why I was to be here this weekend was revealed in a conversation with a great individual. My friend wanted me to meet this person thinking he may be a great fit for a job where I work.... but within 5 seconds of seeing his smile... forget the job... I'm thinking about me!

Now - don't get me wrong, though my interactions with this individual were great and his smile was certainly infectious, I have no misgivings that I was looking at my future. (But don't get me wrong - I don't think I would mind that!). But what I did see was that I have not given up hope and interest, as I thought I had.

You see the last few years I have been stuck in a rut of not wanting to reach out or step out of my comfort box. I have not met anyone new, and really haven't been looking. And certainly haven't met anyone that made me stop in my tracks and think about possibilities.

So if nothing else, by the waves of the water that always remind me a new opportunity comes in with the tide, I was open to that new opportunity. Which tells me I just might have been in the right place at the right time to learn that lesson this weekend.

And if nothing else - I need to thank the great man with the incredible smile and warming personality for not only joking with me about my wardrobe malfunction, but for also showing me that possibilities in my life still exist. And reminding me that I always find hope in the waves of the water.

The difference a year makes

Exactly one year ago today I found myself in the hospital for what I thought would be 24 hours. It just shows you that no matter how much control you have over your life - you can't control everything. I left the hospital 4 days later - FOUR long days later of bland food, no sleep and my veins looking like I had been doing drugs all my life (or at least what I think that would look like!)

But I left the hospital with a lot more than that ... I left the hospital with the knowledge of how the world works. Of how people react in good times and in challenging times. I gained a perspective on life.

I spend 90% of my day and thoughts on work... but not one person drove the 2.3 miles from my office to the hospital to visit me. These are the people I spend all of my time with. The people I spend my vacation with (since I never take all of my vacation). The people I spend my sick days with (becuase unless I am yacking on the floor... I am suffering through everything else at the office). The people that I just made Valentine's goodie bags for (to the tune of almost $87). The people that I make sure we send flowers to when they have their babies, or get married, or a family member passes. But more on the flower subject later.

I have amazing friends that I remember on their birthday, send a text just to make sure their dog doesn't need to be walked, or spend hours putting Valentine's packages together so I can mail 28 boxes of Chocolates and cards so they feel special on a special day. But not a one walked through the doors of the hospital.

Not at this point I should say - two people from work emailed each day and three friends texted and called when the hours got long.

But not one coworker or friend stepped foot through those doors. And the only flowers that ever arrived over 4 long days in a hospital were from the hospital thanking me for my insurance!

Now for the disclaimer - this is not a pity party. Nor is this a story of sitting in a hospital alone. My Mother spent at least 8 hours each say sitting beside of me - knowing when to talk and when to take a walk. A few family members made the trek to see me - including two of my nieces who gave me the necessary break by playing on the fun bed that moved (though I paid for it later!).

But I am thankful for this experience. Not at the time - and not in the 6 or 10 months after. But though it doesn't seem like it now - I was able to finally realize that I don't do what I do for coworkers or friends or family to get anything in return. I don't do it so when I am in the hospital the next time - they visit. I spent hours preparing Valentine's for coworkers and all my friends - simply because I wanted to. And while I was fixing the goodie bags tonight - it made me feel good and enjoy it.

So if nothing else - four days in the hospital, numerous CT scans and MRI's later, and black and blue bruises all up my arms from the collapsed veins... taught me to do things because I want to and they make me happy. And for no other reason - because no matter what - you can not control what others will do.

And with that - I have peace. And the hope that that was my first and last hospital stay for a very long time!

A New Beginning....

I have visited my blog about twice a month for about a year now... With nothing to write. Each time, I saw the last post, and never looked past it.

Until today.

Today I went all the way back the beginning and remembered why I originally started blogging... For me. To remember moments, relieve experiences and create my journal... The one that didn't disturb all of those amazing white pages occupying all the pretty books sitting on my nightstand, desk, in my pocketbook...

So here is to starting my story again. With no expectations and only my experiences to tell...
